FIVE Pietermaritzburg deejays have amalgamated to host an RnB and soul session called “Sodube Soul Session”, that will take place at Sodube Park in Esigodini area in Edendale on April 15 from 10 am until late.

Entrance is free but a fee of R20 applies should you wish to bring a cooler box.

Phumlani Msomi, who is one of the organisers and a deejay for this event, said this is a first in the area of Esigodini. He said they noticed that most events that happen in Pietermaritzburg usually comprise house and kwaito music.

“We want people to know that RnB still exists. We also want to accommodate other people whose love is with RnB and soul music. There are a lot of people who love RnB, but they do not get an opportunity to attend the concerts because they are always happening outside of Pietermaritzburg,” he said.

Msomi said besides wanting to rekindle RnB, they also want to also teach people that there are a lot of things that you can gain from listening to this type of music.

“This kind of music helps you learn about love, how to love yourself and people around you. It also helps in relationships and help you heal if something bad has happened to you. With this show we are targeting mostly the youngsters, we want them to know that there are a lot [more] types of music apart from house and kwaito.”

Msomi said there will be five deejays that will be playing on the day including him as well as the live performance by Bernard.
