NORTHERN suburbs residents are frustrated by the condition they find their roads in, with many stating that they are not safe to be driven on.

From Bhayat Road to Khan Road and then to Orthman Road — these are just a few of the roads that motorists commonly complain about, with many feeling as though the condition of these roads will inevitably lead to accidents and damages to their vehicles.

“It is an absolute disregard from the municipality. Orthman Road is so bad that we have to avoid driving on the one lane and actually use the oncoming lane when it is clear to avoid the massive pothole that exists there,” said an irked Shalin Naidoo, who uses the road to get to and from work. He added that during peak traffic hours the road is a nightmare to drive on.

Another motorist, Chazz Benton, said that even though the municipality does eventually, after months on end, sort the potholes out, the work done on them seems to be very “slap-dash” because the problem often reappears.

“It is so frustrating because just when you think they have done their job, you notice that it was not even fixed properly,” said Benton.

The municipality failed to respond to detailed queries sent by the Maritzburg Fever.
