PIETERMARITZBURG’S Russell Girls’ High “sprinkled” the CBD with happiness this week, the first SA school to participate in the Happiness Sprinkling Project.

Dressed in yellow, holding signs decorated with smiley faces, the schoolgirls took to the streets, dancing and waving at passersby.

The project was founded in the U.S. by Laura Lavigne with the mission to provide, “joy, growth, connection and kindness”.

In a statement, Lavigne said the movement was aimed at growing a “web of Happiness ambassadors and Happiness sprinklers that could change the world “one gathering at a time”.

“People being ‘sprinkled’ on their way home from work are surprised, puzzled and moved,” said Lavigne.

“The sprinkling started in May 2012 and has been spreading like happiness.”

The Pietermaritzburg school is not only the first in SA to take on the project, it is the first on the continent.
