SANBS thanks blood donors

2016-01-13 06:00

THE Pietermaritzburg branch of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) would like to thank everyone who donated blood over the festive season.

SANBS public relations officer Khulekani Zuma said he is happy they did not reach a “red mark”, meaning they did not run out.

“In December 2015 the Pietermaritzburg SANBS branch collected 1 880 units of blood. On behalf of the organisation I would like to thank all our blood donors who donated during the festive season. We would not have made it through the festive period without them.

“We would also like to thank the management of Liberty Midlands Mall and Pick n Pay for giving us space to set up our blood drives,” said Zuma.

Currently the SANBS blood stocks are at 2,5 days in KwaZulu-Natal and 3.8 days nationally.

“We encourage those who are due to donate blood to visit our donor centres at 294 Jabu Ndlovu Street which is known to the public as Loop Street and the Hayfields Shopping Centre,” he said.

For more on blood donation and where to find your nearest blood donor centre, visit the SANBS website alternatively you can “like” it on Facebook and follow them on Twitter for more information.
