GIRL pupils at Haythorne Secondary School will not have to miss school during “that time of the month” due to not having sanitary pads after a donation by two Pam Golding Properties’ employees, Div du Toit and Rene Norman, on Monday.

According to Norman, they had recorded a video where they asked for sanitary pad donations and posted it on their social media pages.

“Yes, we had a few people who came through with donations but it was not enough so we had to take it upon ourselves to do it,” said Norman.

Du Toit explained that it was the first time they had embarked on a initiative like this one, stating that they decided to do so because some pupils can’t afford such necessities.

“The joint effort between my colleague, myself and those who donated is an attempt to decrease absenteeism at Haythorne Secondary and promote hygiene,” said du Toit.

On behalf of the school and girls, Haythorne teacher Adrienne Stafford said that they are extremely grateful for the donation.

“Some of the girls can’t afford [sanitary products] and some get their periods for the first time here at school, so we are always in need of these essentials,” said Stafford.

Haythorne Secondary School Principal Cedric Diaz said they can never say no to these donations because there is always a need for them.

In ending off, Norman said they’re planning to do another drive.

“People can still donate by dropping off their donations at our offices. Alternatively, send an e-mail to rene.norman@pamgolding.com,” said Norman.
