THE Pietermaritzburg Orchid Society will be hosting the SAOC National Orchid Show at the Carbineers Drill Hall, Pietermaritzburg on 9, 10 and 11 September, as well as at the Ascot Conference Centre on 9 and 10 September.

The theme of the show is “Colour our Nation” and there will be local, national and international guests, and orchid vendors selling plants.

This will be an opportunity for our KZN residents to get blown away by the display of orchids and be able to acquire unusual orchid and other plants, as there will be vendors selling a range of plants in the parking area. Orchids will be on sale in the main hall. There will also be catering and mobile ATM facilities, so make a fun family day of it.

Show times open to the public:

Friday 9 September - 9am to 8pm.*

Saturday 10 September - 9am to 4pm.

Sunday 11 September - 9am – 2pm.

* note late closing time

Entry to the event is R20 per person, inclusive of secure parking inside the army base. Children under 12 have free entry. Carbineers is in Gere Street, east off Durban Road, immediately south of the cemetery (S29°36.526; E30°23.193).

If anyone wants to attend the conference with talks on local and exotic orchids, registration is R1 200, which includes tea and lunch for the two-day conference on 9 and 10 September and entry to the cocktail party and conference dinner. Registration is at
