SILWANETSHE Primary School in Willowfontein was declared a health-promoting school by the Department of Health recently.

This means that the school will be able to be used as a venue for Department of Health programmes in Willowfontein.

School principal Syabonga Ngcobo said they are very excited that they are finally recognised as a health-promoting school. He said they are working with the KwaPata Clinic and Willowfontein community to promote cleanliness in the school.

“The Department of Health started assessing our school in 2017, and this year they saw that we deserve to be a health-promoting school. We have been encouraging pupils to always make sure that the school is clean and that they are also clean.

“We are going to continue to keep our school clean. The certificate that we received has encouraged us to do better,” he said.

The school will be now assessed every year by the Department of Health.

School governing body (SGB) member Hlalo Mntungwa said this is going to help a lot with promoting cleanliness not only at the school, but in the community as well.

“We have achieved what we have always wanted. We are so happy. If the department is visiting the school, the community members as well as those who live in the area can just go to school and get the help they need without having to go to the clinic,” she said.
