School athletics event needs your support

2017-08-09 06:02

PREPARATIONS for the Cumberwood Ward School Sports Association’s (Cuwassa) championships are well under way.

Convened by Eastwood Primary, the event takes the form of inter-school sports which comprises field and track events over four days.

The Inter-school Athletics Championship 2017 kicks off on August 23 at Rosefern Primary with field events.

August 29 to 31 lends itself to track events which takes place at Northdale Stadium. The finals take place on the last day.

“Participation in sport is one way of adding value to the school lives of our pupils. All the top international athletes started off at school level and proceeded to higher levels of competition,” said Cuwassa general secretary and Eastwood Primary Principal,
Koogan Moodley.

A total of 21 schools take part in the event and 8 000 to 10 000 pupils participate in the different sporting segments over the four days. “An event of this magnitude requires a lot of preparation and of course, sponsorship from the business sector and community members,” said Moodley.

Trophies and medals, refreshments and medical assistance are still required to make the event a success.

“We are looking for companies to sponsor any of these items. We also invite the public and business sector to come and watch the sport events. Should you wish to sponsor the championship next year, you will have knowledge of it,” said Moodley. For more details or to sponsor the event contact Moodley on 033 390 3511.
