DESIGN students from the Pietermaritzburg School of Fashion have put the city on the map once again after being selected to participate in various fashion fairs and fashion design foundations.
Three students - Martin John Steenkamp, Kimberly Naidoo and Ceri Williams - have been chosen for the Durban Fashion Fair, a 10-month programme that focuses on establishing emerging designers’ talent into the fashion industry. Ten of the best designers at the fair will be given the opportunity to go abroad to experience fashion week in Milan.
In addition to the fair, five students - Steenkamp, Naidoo, Zothani Gwala, Lutfiyya Gafoor and Phiwokhule Sithole, have been selected for the MRP Foundation (Mr Price) programme and will start their internship on 1 February.
The 2014 MRP Foundation participant, Nonsikelelo Ninela, also from the School of Fashion has been selected and was given a fully paid scholarship to go abroad to be mentored by an international designer.
Principal Priscilla Bhika said that she is overwhelmed with the success of her students and wishes them everything of the best for their future plans.
