MISS or Mr Greater Edendale Mall (Gem) is coming back again this year and entries are now open.

The pageant will be held at Greater Edendale Mall on September 1 but the auditions will be held on July 21.

This year’s pageant has three categories — seniors (17-24 years), teens (12-16 years) and juniors (7-11 years). Entry fee for seniors and teens is R150 and juniors is R100.

Sonya Caldecott, who is the marketing manager and acting centre manager at Greater Edendale Mall, said they are excited to be hosting the third Miss or Mr Greater Edendale Mall. She said this pageant is not just about beauty or the ramp, but they want to groom the youngsters to become future models and teach them to be responsible.

“The winners become our ambassadors where they assist us when we are doing community projects. They become the face of the mall. We are focusing on the youth because we want to embrace them and develop them. We hold workshops where we guide them and train them about the industry and life a whole. They learn discipline and how to communicate with different people.

“In this pageant we want people who are really serious about modelling. People who really want to make a difference in their lives and make it to the next level in this industry. We want to prepare them for greater things,” she said.

Caldecott said they will be training all the finalist ahead of the main event even if a model does not belong to a certain modelling agency.

“When this pageant started it was only for Greater Edendale areas but now it has grown; we have people who are coming from other areas as well. This shows that we are doing a good job our youth wants to be part of us when we are doing the community project and trainings.”

She revealed that even those that will not make it to the finals will take part at the fashion show in the main event.

Entry forms are available on Greater Edendale Mall website or you can collect them at the management office at Greater Edendale Mall.

Entries close on July 20.

Dress code for seniors and teens is blue jeans, white T-shirt, heels, shoes and swimwear (boys — no underwear allowed). Dress code for juniors is white T-shirt, heels or shoes, swimwear (boys — no underwear allowed) and formal evening wear.

“In this pageant we want people who are really serious about modelling.

People who really want to make a difference in their lives and make it to the next level in this industry.

We want to prepare them for greater things,” she said.
