Sorry saga concerning top police officer

2017-12-06 06:00

ONCE again, a top police officer, serving in a critical anti rhino-poaching unit with dedication, was summarily dismissed on dubiously constructed charges by dubious powers that be. (The Witness, November 13).

Having been denied representation at his hearing, it becomes apparent: this was a kangaroo court, operating with the full might of the law, a phrase we are being brainwashed with.

The hair-raising statement by the lawyer of warrant officer J.P. van Zyl-Roux, Jacques Botha, seems to be the crux of the matter: an alleged poacher connected to a powerful politician. This alone should have had the full attention of the various anti rhino-poaching and special task-force units. (And the full might of the law.) Instead, as in the case of the Cato Manor police unit, real, honest and dedicated police officers were removed from their duties, allowing criminal activities and poaching atrocities to soar.

In the aftermath of this sorry saga, did anything come of it regarding, the “connected” allegations? In short, is the full might of the law at play here?

When all is considered (state capture, protection of dubious elements, removal of vital crime-fighting units, etc.), it’s a sad day for South Africa . It seems that South Africa, like humans, has taken the inevitable step-up from dysfunctional, to deceased.

It’s everyone for himself or herself, except the connected, of course.
