Speak out against Islamophobia

2019-03-27 06:02

THE uncivilised multiple shooting at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Friday prayers last week, needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

This act of terror goes against all universal and human rights values and morals. It was no doubt a dark and painful day for Muslims and humanity at large. I believe that this inhuman, racist and fascist terrorist attack was mainly due to ignorance, hate, intolerance, hostility and Islamophobia.

This terrorist attack reaffirms what Muslims throughout the world have always believed, that terrorism does not have a race, class, religion or nationality.

Global leaders, together, must raise their voices against the growing resentment towards Islam and Muslims. Muslims around the globe contribute positively towards social welfare, nation-building, poverty alleviation, wealth creation and redistribution. The giving of charity in all its forms without any show, recompense or splendour, is one of the central pillars and principles enshrined in the Qur’an and Muslims carry out this command diligently.

I express my deepest sympathies, condolences and prayers to all who are affected by this sickening act of terror.
