NON-PROFIT organisation A Pome­ Mental Illness Advocacy will host a fun walk on May 5.

The walk will start at Townhill Psychiatric Hospital at 8 am and end at City Hall at noon. The theme for this walk is “pink splash”.

Ayanda Mavundla, who is the founder of A Pome Mental Illness Advocacy, said the aim of the walk is to transform the mindsets of people living in society with regards to mental illness and raise awareness that mental illness is real and it knows no skin colour.

“We aim to provide awareness of depressive disorders to participants, offer moral support to people living with depressive disorders, have more fun than to compete and to raise funds. The money that will be generated from the event will be used to assist people living with a depressive disorders who are underprivileged and cannot afford psychiatric help.

“The profits that emanate from the fun walk will also take care of the event’s beneficiary,” she said.

Entry fee for this fun walk is R90 per person and it is free for children under the age of 18.

The entry free will include a T-shirt and powder splash.

If you would like to enter, collect an entry form, complete it, and return it with the payment to 19 Gallwey Lane, Pietermaritzburg.
