BUSINESSMAN and owner of Poobie Naidoo’s Sports Warehouse, Poobie Naidoo, donated to Eastwood’s Rise and Shine Junior League.

Naidoo gesture was to uplift five disadvantaged township schools and the Eastwood based league.

In the first donation, Poobie Naidoo’s Sports Warehouse donated second-hand cricket bats, soccer balls, running shoes, tennis rackets, soccer boots, sports bags and rugby balls to Zwartkop Primary, Lutho Primary, Malala Primary, Tetelegu Primary, Bhek’ximba High schools and Rise & Shine Junior League.

To that he added trophies and medals to the junior league to make it possible for them to stage their year-end award ceremony.

Rise & Shine Junior League executive member and Rebels development coach Gerald Jackson said Naidoo was one of the few people who came on board to rescue their annual awards ceremony, which were held on the weekend in Eastwood.

“Rise & Shine Junior League caters for about 300 children from Eastwood and nearby areas. Most come from poor backgrounds so putting together their awards ceremony was a big task and Poobie Naidoo’s made it possible for us.

“We are very grateful and Naidoo’s ongoing community projects aim to improve communities around the greater Pietermaritzburg area,” said Jackson.

Naidoo said he was privileged to be involved in improving the well being of different communities, especially children.

“[The] fact is things are tough out there and a lot of businesses have taken a heavy knock around the country. But we are glad that we were able to scratch here and there to donate something in helping schools and sporting associations.

“We would also like to thank our customers for donating these items to us because this project has been made possible by them. In our shop there is a collection box to encourage our caring customers to donate old equipment,” said Naidoo.

U11 Player of the Season - Aphiwe Ntombela.

U11 Most Improved Team - Panorama Fanthoms.
