AFTER playing squash for just three years, a Deccan Road Primary pupil, Ruvay Ramdhin, is already ranked fifth in KwaZulu-Natal and has made the U13 A-team.

After enrolling in the sport in 2017 when he was only 10-years-old, Ruvay has already achieved major feats in the sport and dreams of one day playing professional squash.

“He just took to squash immediately and, within one year of playing and being introduced to the sport, he was ranked ninth in the KZN U11 boys in 2018,” said Ruvay’s mother, Usha Ramdhin.

A member of Ravi’s Squash Academy, Ruvay has competed at an interprovincial level and has also played in various men’s leagues to improve his game.

Spurred on by his love of sport, Ruvay credits his passion for the game and various other sports to his father.

“Thanks to the constant support and motivation from my father, I played many different sports and have taken a huge liking to squash,” said Ruvay.

Drawing inspiration from a squash legend who he regards as the greatest squash coach of all time in the form of Ramy Ashour, Ruvay says that one day he sees himself going all the way to the South African rankings, stating that with dedication and hard work he knows anything is possible.
