LOCAL DJ and University of KwaZulu-Natal student, Talent Sikhosana wants to become a national star once he completes his studies.

Sikhosana (23) who is in his final year of media studies at the Pietermaritzburg campus became a deejay in 2013.

Speaking to Echo he said it has always been his dream to become a deejay but now he wants to aim higher. “I come from a music background; my mother was a singer, my father loved playing deep house and my uncle used to play a guitar. I have always loved music but growing up in a location we were expected to play football because we were boys. When I finished Grade 12, I decided to follow my passion and studied music in 2013 and that is when I became a deejay. I have grown so much in the music industry and I want to go abroad now and play in different countries,” he said.

Sikhosana said that although he studies, music and being a deejay comes first. Sikhosana said that he has won a couple of deejay competitions which shows that he is good at what he does.

“I won the Red Bull Campus Splash in 2015, played with Fistaz Maxwell in 2016 and from 2017 I have been sharing a stage with big names like DJ Tira, Dladla Mshunqisi and many more. I have also been involved in campus events as a deejay. I know that it will take a lot of hard work to become a national deejay but I believe that I can do it. I want to start by becoming a radio deejay so that people can become familiar with me and be able to recognise me when I am playing my music somewhere outside of radio.”

Sikhosana said that he also wants to inspire young, upcoming deejays to work hard and follow their dreams and not leave school.

“Education is very important and it is very wise that you have some sort of qualification. We all know that the entertainment industry is tough. You will never know what is going to happen.”
