Students and residents clean up Scottsville

THE Community Development Association (CDA) UKZN Pietermaritzburg hosted a successful clean-up campaign last week Saturday where students and residents participated.

Partakers showed up in their numbers, not only to tidy up but to show their support for the Scottsville community.

Starting at the UKZN squash courts from as early as 10 am, students and residents made their way from the campus and throughout the Scottsville business hub area picking up all the litter they could see.

“We wanted to make a difference and save and clean up our surrounding community in order to keep it clean,” said the CEO of the Pietermaritzburg CDA branch, Philasande Mkhafane.

With their protective gloves and bin bags in hand, the participants ensured that Scottsville’s streets were clean and presentable for all to see.

Mkhafane said he was thankful for all those who showed up and helped.

“Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us on Saturday during our clean-up Scottsville campaign, it was so good to see people who care about the environment and who always want to keep it clean,” said Mkhafane.
