THE Pietermaritzburg Fire Department is set to host a fundraising Astro Soccer Tournament at Mountain Rise Primary School in support of the Fireman’s Arms and Recreational Club on October 20. The tournament is being organised to raise funds for the Fireman’s social club, currently run by the fire department.

“We are expecting around 16 teams to participate in the tournament but that number could increase or decrease coming closer to the day,” said one of the organisers of the event Devershen Pillay. The entrance fee for any team looking to participate in the tournament stands at R500 per a team.

There will be cash prizes, trophies and medals up for grabs for the winners of the tournament.

“It is sure to be a day jam-packed with passionate soccer players ready to entertain the crowds with their flair and trickery, all in the names of fun,” said Pillay. The event starts at 8 am on October 20 with kickoff set for 9 am. Interested teams can contact Devershen Pillay at 073 133 0168.
