THE Pietermaritzburg community is pulling out all the stops again and rallying behind the charities, Singakwenza and Pink Drive, at the annual Swimchix Charity Swimathon, which takes place on November 2 at the Pine Street Baths, the home of Seal’s Swimming Club. The event is being run by 22 swimmers from the adult swim team SwimChix, who will all be swimming the Aquelle Midmar Mile eight-mile event in February 2019, for either Singakwenza or Pink Drive, and are collectively looking to raise R264 000 for these fantastic causes.Julie Hay, director of Singakwenza, said: “We are so excited for our seventh swimathon on November 2. The event offers so much fun for the whole family, where swimmers of all abilities take to the water for a great cause. What blows me away, though, and really warms my heart, is the huge support the whole Maritzburg community shows for our two organisations. The money raised at this event goes an incredibly long way to changing lives, and we are just so over the moon that people recognise this and support it.”There are still two weeks to go and there are already over 100 teams entered to participate, and so far the event has got the support of nearly 20 local businesses which have supported the swimathon with a corporate lane sponsorship. “We are so grateful to the corporate sponsors for their lane sponsorship and for supporting our event.“We are calling on anyone and everyone who would like to participate in one of Maritzburg’s biggest charity events of the year to get in touch and come and join the fun. It’s going to be an event not to be missed.” said Hay.For more information about the event or to support or contribute, contact Kath Boast at 082 784 3723 or Julie Hay at 082 445 6764— Supplied.
