BEGINNING her descent into the water at just four years old, Kailyn Roopchand (11) is racking up the medals in the pool and is not stopping anytime soon.

Just this year, Kailyn has competed in and completed two Midmar Miles in one weekend and one Dolphin Mile. Both these races were open-water swims of 1,6 kms each, with the Dolphin Mile taking place at the Durban beach front.

“I enjoy being in the water, I always have from the time I started training at age four,” said Kailyn, stating that she comes from a family of swimmers but that she is the first to do swim competitively.

Part of the Deccan Road swimming team, the Deccan Dolphins, Kailyn is on a mission to further her accolades in swimming and hopes to continue swimming competitively.

“I train religiously during the swimming season and also recently placed ninth at the KZN Level One Championships which took place at the Kings Park Stadium,” said Kailyn.
