Swimming to success at the Salga games

THE uMgungundlovu South African Local Government Association (Salga) swim team brought home 78 medals in total during the KZN DSR Salga Games 2019 which were hosted by eThekwini District Municipality at the Kings Park Pool recently.

Speaking on the achievement, Kathy Boreham, secretary of uMgungundlovu District Aquatics Association, said: “Thirty individual medals were won — nine gold medals, nine silver and 12 bronze medals.”

Notable swimmers included:

• Troy Pillay [11 - 12]: top male for the district; silver for 200 IM.

• Shiara Gungaparsad [13-14]: top female for the district; two gold (200 free and 100 back); one silver (100 free); and one bronze (200 IM).

• Jeremiah George [13 - 14]: one gold (100 free) and one bronze (50 free).

• Grace George [11-12]: two bronze (100 back and 200 free).

• Ruqaiyah Mahomed [13-14]: one silver (200 IM) and one bronze (50 fly).

• Amahle Mholongo [11-12]: one gold (50 free) and one bronze (50 fly).

• Alwandi Zondi [11- 12]: two gold (200 free and 100 free).

• Jordan Petersen [11-12]: one bronze (50 back)

• Prithvir Balgobind [13-14]: one bronze (100 breast)

• Leah Nicholson: two bronze (50 & 100 back)
