FOLLOWING the recent strike by waste removal workers that plagued the city, the Epworth Community Watch took it upon themselves to get the waste removed off the streets and sent to the dump.

Community watch group chairman Malcolm Moodley commended the efforts of the Epworth Community Watch, stating that the initiative was essential in ensuring the safety of community members.

“It has been noted that a handful of criminals hide among the vagrants when domestic waste is put out. These criminals use this opportunity to scout houses and take opportunistic chances to commit crimes,” said Moodley.

The strike, which has since been declared over by waste removal workers, impacted areas across Pietermaritzburg in a negative way with dirt being left out for days, attracting all types of pests and vagrants.

Moodley said that Tug Trailers sponsored the Epworth Community Watch with a trailer in order to transport the collected waste to the dump.

“This kindness from Tug Trailers ensured that the number of vagrants dramatically dropped in a safe manner, which in turn allowed us to maintain our safe environment,” said Moodley.
