Taxi owner killer sentenced

TAXI owner Siphiwe Mavimbela was found dead at Thokozani Location on February 25.

Police determined he had been shot and his vehicle stolen.

Mountain Rise SAPS spokesperson, Captain Gay Ebrahim said
Detective Warrant Officer Ashok Baldowu was assigned to the case.

“After thorough investigations, Nicholas van Wyk was arrested for the murder and robbery.
“After a lengthy and detailed
trial, the accused was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder and 15 years imprisonment for the robbery,” Ebrahim said.

The sentence was handed down in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on December 8.

The Mountain Rise SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier Boxer Pillay, commended Baldowu for his swift and thorough investigation, which led to the conviction.

He also thanked the community members who were forthcoming with information.
