Team of Choice eyes more points

2019-05-22 06:01

MARITZBURG United will be looking to make it six points from two games as they take on Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Thohoyandou Stadium this afternoon, having already played host to and beaten Royal Eagles 1-0 in their first play-off match in a bid to secure their stay in the PSL.

Controlling much of the game, Erik Tinkler’s side secured three points on Sunday after Thabiso Kutumela’s strike put them ahead in what was the only goal of the day.

It was not a straightforward win, however, as Eagles ensured a nervy end to the game for United with the visitors coming close to grabbing an equaliser.

Eagles’ late efforts were in vain though as they were denied a goal in a match in which they rarely challenged United until the dying moments of the game.

United had many opportunities throughout the match and should have doubled their lead when Mxolisi Kunene found himself 10 yards from goal, but a bad first touch allowed Eagles’ shot-stopper to smother Kunene enough to prevent a goal.

As the game approached its ending, Eagles began applying pressure in search of an equaliser, but it was too little too late for the team as The Team of Choice held on to take the full three points, levelling them with Eagles with a game in hand.

Delighted United fans celebrated the team’s victory in song and dance and now look forward to today’s game in the hopes of their team staying in the PSL.
