THE master plan, motivation and braveness displayed by the local PSL outfit Maritzburg United when they beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 during the Nedbank Cup semi-final clash is likely help in their next fixture.

The sudden giant killers, popularly known as the Team of Choice, will on Saturday afternoon (3 pm) square up against the lowly-spirited and former SA’s glamour boys Kaizer Chiefs at FNB. Although all the teams were able to test waters during their midweek league matches, but in Chiefs’ camp things are still looking dark and gloomy.

The Naturena-based outfit was outsmarted, outmuscled and ousted by less fancied Free State Stars 2-0 during the dramatical Nedbank Cup semi-final at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium last Saturday night.

What is also more interesting is that a couple of prominent local coaches are currently and endlessly singing praises for the Pietermaritzburg team.Former United coach Ian Palmer said the Team of Choice management must be congratulated for giving current head coach Fadlu Davids and his entire technical bench a chance to take up the reigns.

“That faith alone displayed by the entire Maritzburg United management to Davids and his team changed everything, motivated all the stake holders and means a lot. Currently you can see that the whole camp is happy, well focused and highly spirited,”said Palmer.

Former Orlando Pirates and ex-Chippa United coach Teboho Moloi said United are currently on form, players confident and will be very difficult to break them down.

Last Sunday, the Team of Choice outwitted arguably the best teams in the country — Mamelodi Sundown — 3-1 at Harry Gwala Stadium during the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.
