Ten injured as taxi crashes into tree in Taylors Halt area

2017-06-07 06:01

TEN people were injured on Sunday evening after a taxi crashed into a tree on the side of a gravel road in the Taylors Halt area near Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the emergency service’s paramedics and other services arrived on the scene to find the taxi smashed against a tree some distance from the road, with passengers lying around the taxi.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that 10 had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Fortunately, no serious or fatal injuries were reported on the scene,” he said.

Meiring said the patients were treated for their injuries and then transported to Northdale and Edendale hospitals.

“It is understood that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash into the tree. Local authorities were on the scene to begin their investigations,” Meiring said.
