AFTER musician Simone van Niekerk recently hosted a night of music titled Simply Complexed, at Solid Rock Global Ministries; those who attended were left asking for more.
The Woodlands artist held a production that saw her share her journey and her experiences at university all through music.
Speaking of Simply Complexed, van Niekerk said even though the show was over three hours, at the end of it, the crowd was still asking for more music.
“It was a huge success. People are asking me for another show. Many people are asking for a Christmas show,” said van Niekerk, adding that her highlight of the night was the people’s response.
“The sound of the production. The turnout in the audience and God’s favour are amongst one of my highlights,” said van Niekerk.
She emphasised that the reason she hosted the event was because being a university student, there are many temptations such as drugs, violence, and more.
Noting that apart from the hard work one has to put in to studying, being in the music industry is demanding on its own.
“In and around these temptations and challenges, it is important to be a strong and focused person. It is in fact good to say no to things that are not good for you,” said van Niekerk.
At the concert, van Niekerk did not only play the drums, saxophone and piano; she also did some stand-up comedy.
Those who attended said they haven’t been to a show like this in a long time and they need more of it.
Theo Tuge said: “Well done Simone. Everything about last night was absolutely brilliant. From the stand-up comedy, the sound, song selection, tone of the saxophone and the vocalists; I could literally feel God’s presence.” Tevin Govender, who said he has not been to a good show in a long time, found the production very authentic and loved it.
“I wish there could be more of this around Pietermaritzburg because this place hardly has productions like this one,” said Govender.
Due to people demanding more, van Niekerk said they have started working on another production.
“Thank you family and friends for sharing this special night with me; my first official show. Thank you for your support, love that I have received throughout this journey and for filling the Solid Rock Church. I appreciate you all,” said van Niekerk.
