Thanks to municipality

2016-08-03 06:00

I WRITE on behalf of the Bromhead Road residents in Pelham, who have asked me to thank the municipality for restoring power to them under difficult circumstances.

It began on Sunday, when half of the residents were left suddenly without power. This situation, I believe, was rampant throughout Pietermaritzburg, no doubt due to the sudden rain after a dry spell.

This was duly reported and the residents were put in the “queue”.

However, on Tuesday afternoon, a spectacular firework display was afforded us by the electrical street pole, which sent out sparks and fireballs, and ended with a huge plume of black smoke and a burnt pole. This, of course, meant that residents were without power.

The Pietermaritzburg Fire Department responded to this and sent out a truck and the staff erected hazard tape around the pole.

On Tuesday night, in the extreme cold and rain, a team from the electricity department fixed the pole, and power was restored to all at around 2.30am.
