The Comrades —there’s no turning back

2018-02-07 06:00

ONE of South Africa’s iconic road races — the Comrades Marathon — will be run on Sunday, June 10 this year. It is a “down-run” from Pietermaritzburg to Durban and many of the 20 000 runners will be tackling this ultra-distance for the first time.

To help novice runners plan their training, give them insights into the route, what to expect along the way and to help them prepare mentally and physically, the well-received Bonitas Comrades Novice Seminars are being held in six cities.

The Durban leg will be held on Wednesday, April 25, at Stella Athletics Club, Glenwood Preparatory School, Bath Road, Glenwood, commencing at 7 pm.

These informative seminars are aimed specifically at the first-time Comrades Marathon runner. A panel of experts will be available to provide invaluable advice and also answer questions about the race, with the official Comrades Coach on hand to assist. Comrade’s officials will also be in attendance to help with details about registration as well as what to expect at the start and finish. In the past, these seminars have helped thousands of newbie runners across the finish line.

The Comrades Marathon theme for 2018 is “Asijki — No turning back”, and the Bonitas Novice Seminars are designed so that the runners tackling the marathon for the first time, won’t.

Entrance is free and details of the dates and venues are available on the Comrades website at as well as via the Comrades Marathon App.
