PIETERMARITZBURG Girls’ High School held its academic awards ceremony last Friday.

All pupils from Grade 8 to Grade 11 of 2017, who performed well, received awards.

The event was also attended by the parents who went to support their children.

Rachel Job (17) and Lindelwa Bhengu (17), both in Grade 12, received the Catherine Morewood Award in the form of a laptop each.

“I am so honoured. This shows that hard work pays off. I am also thankful to all those who voted for us.

“This school is like a sisterhood and I would like us [pupils] to continue helping and supporting each other so that we can all succeed,” said Rachel.

Rachel did not only receive this award but she also scooped up other subject awards in her class.

Lindelwa said she is very happy to know that there are pupils who look up to her.

“Voting was done a long time ago but I did not think most pupils would vote for me. This laptop is going to help me a lot and it will be a relief to my family.

“I have always wanted a laptop so that I can use it for information technology. Now things will be easy for me and my parents,” she said.

She said it is important to work hard and also respect other people.

“Respect is not just given, you have to earn it. 0“Always do your best,” she said.
