2019-02-20 06:01

PIETERMARITZBURG branch of the international NPO, Tough Love will be running a six-week course for those that are concerned for their loved one’s behaviour to provide education, empowerment and support to family members and key role-players.

The NPO, which was started 20 years ago in America by professional counsellors, David and Phyliss York is a self-help organisation that provides ongoing education and active support to families, empowering parents and young people to accept responsibility for their actions.

Speaking to Silvanna Cooper, a member of Tough Love PMB branch, the Maritzburg Fever was told that anyone seeing the following symptoms should be part of their six-week programme:

• Are you noticing unpredictable behaviour, mood swings or lashing out?

• Are you afraid to hear the phone ring when your loved one is out of the house?

• Are they destroying your home and ripping your family apart because of drug or alcohol abuse?

• Do you feel hurt, anger, guilt, shame or helplessness?

• Do you struggle to set boundaries and know that there are dysfunctional ties between you and your loved one?

“We offer help with a loving solution. Through our course you will learn many things such as assessing problems, developing plans and taking responsibility etc.,” said Cooper.
