MSUNDUZI Hospice hosted a Tree of Lights and remembrance service last Friday.

People came in numbers to remember their loved ones and thank them for the impact they had in their lives.

Guest speaker Cherri Forsythe encouraged attendees not to lose hope after losing a loved one.

Forsythe, who lost her nine-year-old daughter 16 years ago, asked attendees to light candles consciously because their loved ones symbolises the light of the candle.

“We must take these candles into our hearts so they can be lights. As the light move to our hearts, the essence of them will move and reside with us as we heal. We must keep them in our lives and hearts always,” she said.

Forsythe told mourners that the journey after losing a loved one is tough, but said it is their choice whether they want to heal or not.

“We choose to be overwhelmed by the hardest and saddest instead of allowing ourselves to heal and become better people than we were before.

“When they are gone they inspire and motivate us even though they are no longer with us.

“We do difficult things for the first time after the loss because they are with us all the time.

“Let us allow them to motivate us to do more. When things get tough do not feel alone. We need to make them proud of who we are and who we are becoming,” she said.
