THE police Motorbike Unit in Pietermaritzburg were conducting stop and search operations at Church Street when they spotted a vehicle with two occupants.

The said vehicle was stopped at the corner of Garfield and Prince Street and it was searched.

During the search, two unlicensed firearms; a gas pistol; suspected stolen cigarettes and airtime vouchers were seized. R3 000 in coins was also seized from the vehicle as the suspects could not provide police with a satisfactory explanation as to how they got hold of the items. Further investigations to establish whether they are linked to any other crimes in Pietermaritzburg and the surroundings are on-going.

The suspects (19 and 31 years old) were charged for possession of property suspected to be stolen and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court soon. — Supplied.
