THE Team of Choice wrapped up a remarkable season with a public parade through the streets of Pietermaritzburg on Monday despite an unlucky loss in the finals of the Nedbank Cup to Free State Stars.

Starting at 11 am, Maritzburg United were greeted by scores of grateful fans and spectators for their season after finishing fourth in the Absa Premiership for the first time in their history.

Despite a disappointing end to a fantastic season, the local club can hold their heads up high in remembrance of a breakthrough season that saw them also finish as runners up in the Nedbank Cup Final on Saturday.

These results prompted the city to arrange their first ever public parade to celebrate their accolades with their adoring fans.

Farook Kadodia, the club’s chairperson and managing director, said that regardless of the result it was an unbelievable achievement for the club and the coaches and players had his admiration for the amazing work they had done this season.

“We are sad for not coming back with the trophy but we made our presence felt in Cape Town with the brand of football we displayed.

“It was our first final ever and we wanted to experience it with our fans,” said Kadodia.
