  • IN a bid to avoid the repeat of last season’s stressful saga, Maritzburg United boss Farouk Kadodia says the local Premiership club will be looking to add more good players before the start of the season.

Maritzburg have made three signings so far and they’re far from being done.

In the previous campaign, the Team of Choice almost got relegated to the National First Division after spending most part of the season at the foot of the table in the Premiership.

They had to go to the promotion/relegation play-offs to keep their status, which they successfully achieved.

Their struggles have been credited to allowing their top players to go elsewhere for bigger pay cheques and not finding equally good replacements for them.

Again, Maritzburg have lost two of their key stars, Fortune Makaringe and Sphesihle Ndlovu, to Orlando Pirates but it seems like the Team of Choice learned from their past mistakes.

The club has already brought in Phumlani Ntshangase, Kwanda Mngonyama and Judas Moseamedi for the upcoming season.

Kadodia saidthat they are not done participating on the market as he’s still looking to open his cheque book to bring in at least four players for coach Eric Tinkler.

Kadodia confirmed that they will be joining almost all the top-tier sides in the search for a prolific striker. “We are still looking to add more players to make sure we have good depth in our squad ...” said Kadodia. “We are looking for a striker, attacking midfielder and a winger.” Strikers who can actually score goals have been hard to come by in the Premiership recently and Black Leopards have apparently put a heavy price tag on Mwampe Musonda. He was the league’s top goal scorer last season with 16 goals and the “Big Three” are reported to be after his services.
