IN a bid to promote the well-being and social upliftment of Pietermaritzburg, religious leaders across the city have embarked on a campaign of prayer, which is currently being held at the Protea Grounds and will run until March 15.

Initially organised by PMB for Jesus, the event, which sees a host of religious leaders uniting for an improvement in the current affairs of the city, has attracted people in their numbers since it began on Sunday, March 10.

Speaking to Pastor Neville Sewlall from Jacob’s Well Ministries, the Maritzburg Fever was told that there was an urgent need for Pietermaritzburg and the general nation of South Africa to be prayed for.

“This event is for the well-being of our city and country. We want to pray for our people and therefore will not be collecting offerings at our event because this is not about money for us. Various pastors have and will attend throughout the week to devote their time to pray over our nation,” said Sewlall.

Various influential leaders throughout Pietermaritzburg have already attended the prayer and Sewlall has appealed to other members of the community, regardless of religious backgrounds, to attend.

“I want to appeal to people of all kinds of backgrounds to join us during this week of prayer. As the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal, we want to show our concern and do what we can for our country in whatever way possible,” said Sewlall.

Prayer commences at 5pm to 6pm today and on Thursday will be held from 4pm to 10pm.
