Celebrate Library Week with city chief whip

The city’s chief whip and ANC stalwart Truman Magubane will be honoured during South African Library Week this month with a lecture on his life. Magubane, who spent 15 years imprisoned on Robben Island, will have a host of dignitaries speaking about him. The lecture will take place on 14 March at the Bessie Head Library at 5pm in the auditorium. The theme for this year’s library week is #Libraries4lifelonglearning and will reflect on a more holistic view on education from different environments.

Reaching out: Why we should free Opal

The talk covers Opal’s life in captivity and how she now has the chance to go from being in captivity to international celebrity. Steve Smit from Mokey Helpline, guest speaker, will also talk about the general tragedy of Great Apes in zoos around the world and how we should move forward on resolving this tragedy and the crisis facing Orang Utans in their home range. The talk takes place on Saturday, 19 March at 10.30am at the KZN Museum, 237 Jabu Ndlovu Street, Pietermaritzburg. Tea will be served from 10.15am.

Choc-A-Bloc Easter Workshops

In this workshop, children learn how to make hollow chocolate Easter eggs and other treats. They leave with a box brimming with treats. Prices include a drink and treat. Mothers or grannies need to stay and help children five and under. The workshops takes place on Saturday, 19 March and every day from Monday 21 March to Thursday, 24 March from 10am to 12pm at A Garden Suite B&B, 23 Montgomery Drive. The cost is R150 per child. Easter Novelty Biscuit Workshop

In this interactive workshop takes place on Saturday, 12 March from 1pm to 4pm, Ashleigh Temple will teach you the basics of Royal icing and the do’s and don’ts of biscuit making for iced biscuits. You will learn the flooding technique as well as some clever icing techniques and the drying and storing of the biscuits. Recipes will be given to participants.
