DON’T hassle with driving to Durban to shop or buy home decor, as shops in Pietermaritzburg have what you are looking for and if they don’t, they are certainly able to get it for you.

This was according to Imraan Asmall, CEO of well-known Pietermaritzburg firm Venetian Blind Centre. He was interviewed last week at the launch of a new 300 square metre showroom at their premises in Victoria Road.

The new showroom showcases blinds, curtains, awnings, mirrors and floor solutions, as well as state-of-the-art automation for home products, such as for instance, lights and home blinds.

The opening was accompanied with the launch of a cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) version of the showroom on Venetian Blinds’ website, installed by Maritzburg-based Networthy (www.venetia.co.za). “It takes our showroom further afield, to people outside of the city,” said Asmall.

The company, first established in Pieter­maritzburg in 1969, has already done many projects outside the city, including Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg.

These include those done for some big corporate clients such as King Shaka Airport, and doing projects for Illovo Sugar’s new head office, and a new regional head office for Absa, in Umhlanga.

The VR showroom gives viewers a realistic view of the showroom that can be seen in 360 degrees and can be interacted with.

It contains explanatory text, pop-up photo galleries of installed products, and video that demonstrates examples of automated blinds, awnings and curtains.

“The VR showroom has been very popular with people,” said Asmall. He said the firm keeps abreast with constantly changing trends in the world of blinds, curtains and flooring by travel to overseas trade shows and interacting with key designers.
