VODACOM is a leading African mobile communication company providing a wide range of communication services including mobile voice, messaging, data and converged services to over 61 million customers.

From our roots in South Africa, we have grown our mobile network business to include operations in Tanzania, DRC, Mozambique and Lesotho. The mobile networks cover a total population of approximately 200 million people.

Through Vodacom Business Africa (VBA), we also offer business managed services to enterprises in over 40 countries across the continent.Vodacom is majority owned by Vodafone (65% holding) one of the world’s largest mobile communications companies by revenue.

We have over 61 million customers on many different devices connected to our world-class networks, serviced through our various distribution and service partners. Our core services are voice, messaging and data, which are all available on either contract or prepaid.

Contract gives you the convenience of paying for services after you’ve used them via monthly debit order, whereas prepaid lets you control how much you spend upfront without being locked into a contract. Our ultra-low-cost handsets (ULCH) make it affordable for everyone to get connected.

Our products and services keep you connected in whatever way you choose - whether through a phone call, SMS, email, tweet or status update, or even sending someone money – we are here to make it possible. It’s all about helping you get more out of a connected world.

We provide customers with the technology to engage with their worlds through handsets that are serviced through our various distribution and service partners.

There are many contract, top up and prepaid plans, and ultra-low-cost handsets offering core services like voice, messaging and data:

• Contract - enjoy the benefit of only paying for services after use via debit orders

• Prepaid - enjoy being able to control how much you spend upfront.

• Our impact

• Economical contribution

• We believe we can help to build a more sustainable future by delivering products and services that enable positive economic, social and environmental outcomes for our stakeholders worldwide.

• ICT penetration drives economic growth, which creates employment, which in turn drives growth. In all the countries in which we operate, we create value for all our stakeholders by:

• Investing in our business.

• Providing high-quality networks is the foundation of a truly differentiated customer experience, helping us to retain existing customers and attract new customers. We invested R10 779 million (2013: R9 456 million) in capital expenditure to build and maintain high quality networks in all our operations as the foundation for reliable voice and data services.

• Contributing to our countries.

• Vodacom plays an important role in helping to develop the economies of the countries in which it operates. We are a major investor, taxpayer, employer and purchaser of local goods and services. We also make a vital contribution to the delivery of government’s policy objectives through our substantial capital expenditure in building the next generation of digital infrastructure.

• Our corporate tax contributions amounted to R5 194 million (R5 337 mln in 2013) to public finances through corporate taxes, which account for only a portion of our many direct and indirect contributions to public finances in the countries in which we operate.

• Investing in our people.

• Our 7 225 employees are vital to our performance and success. We continue to develop our people to meet the requirements of our business. Moreover, we engage with them and use our annual People Survey to track how engaged, well managed and included our employees feel.

• One of the most important ways in which we invest in our people is through our talent programmes.

We distributed R4 609 million (R4 427 mln in 2013) to our employees in salaries, short- and long-term incentives and contributions to pension funds and medical aid schemes.
