PROVING once again that great talent comes from Pietermaritzburg, Noma Khumalo, has made it to the finals of Idols South Africa after a long and exciting journey on the show.

The 22-year-old student teacher from the city was seen for the first time on the Idols SA broadcast with her classroom full of pupils, who she said, encouraged her to enter the show.

After making it through the first round she called her pupils to let them know and shouts of joy and excitement were heard as pupils wished her well.

Now, a few months later, Khumalo has developed as an artist on stage and has wowed audiences with her captivating voice, which gained her a spot in the top two this Sunday.

Social media was abuzz this weekend as people expressed their support for the local lass, who is holding the Pietermaritzburg flag high garnering support from the locals.

At a recent Msunduzi Municipality executive committee meeting council expressed their support for Khumalo saying they were “fully behind” her and encouraged people to vote for her to remain in the show.

“We are asking the community to support Noma since she is doing so well in the show. We feel proud, as a council, that coming from a small community she is able to make it through. We encourage everyone to vote for her to make it to the top,” said deputy mayor, Thobani Zuma.

To vote for Khumalo SMS the number 04 to 37400 (each SMS costs R1,50) or add Idols SA on WeChat and follow the prompts (this is free, limited to 100 votes). Voting lines close on Thursday, 24 November.

The season finale of Idols SA season 12 will be aired on Sunday, 27 November at 5pm on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).
