HAVING started in 2014, the Walk of Hope was launched as an initiative hosted by Breakthru Community Action (BCA), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded in 2007. It has now gained momentum with major partners expanding on the reach of the initiative, with events already having been hosted in Kokstad, Cape Town and Pretoria apart from Pietermaritzburg.

Speaking on behalf of BCA, Shannon Lawrence said that the aim of the initiative is to spread hope to the people of South Africa.

“BCA’s vision is to support young people especially. The current programmes include working with visually impaired children, working with drug addicted youth, and offering TB support and treatment, among a host of other projects,” said Lawrence.

The Walk of Hope is BCA’s biggest fundraiser and Lawrence said that it promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family.

“The 4 km and 8 km trail run kick off at Linpark High School at 8 am with prize giving and kids entertainment until 12.30 pm,” said Lawrence.

Tickets (R100 per person) are available at any Pick n Pay, at the event, or online at www.webtickets.co.za
