THE newly elected Ward 33 councillor says he is determined to serve his community well.Nkululeko Mkhize, a DA member, was elected on Wednesday in the by-elections following the resignation of Uraisha Josomay Haswell.Ward 33, which incorporates Manor, Church Street and Scottsville, has not had a councillor for the past four months.Speaking to Maritzburg Fever Mkhize said his first priority is to make sure that everything is up to date in this ward.“There are lot of things that need to be sorted. Since there was no councillor there are things that need to be done to make up for the lost time.“I want to get my people a mobile clinic because there are many children living here, but clinics are far away.” He said he wants to know from the municipality what the hold up is in the big housing project meant for Jika Joe.“People need answers. They want to know what is going on with service delivery. “There are about 1000 units of houses that are supposed to be built for people in this ward. If Jika Joe people can get these houses it will help a lot and will reduce incidents, like fires, that happen.“I haven’t seen anything on the site yet besides one machine, but its old, which is why I need to question this for my people.”Mkhize said when the project begins Jika Joe people, hopefully, will get job opportunities, which will help to put bread on the table for many.
