THE Wartburg 7’s capped off a sensational start to the season, winning back-to-back titles in the Wembley 7’s league.

Coach L. Johnson said that the tournament brought out many good performances and individual brilliance from his players.

“After the festival it was evident that our hard work paid off and was necessary,” said Johnson.

He hailed the efforts of the squad, which he said are a mixed bunch of both young and experienced players and noted it as a good sign for next year’s rugby squad.

“The boys played with courage and determination at all times, resulting in an unbeaten season in the Wembley 7’s league. The boys showed incredible flair and with ball in hand and space to play the boys were very difficult to defend,” said Johnson, who added that through this they were able to score 50 tries in 11 games.

Playing in the finals of the Wembley 7’s league, Wartburg met Curro Mt Richmore, who they faced earlier in the pool stages and proved to be very tough opposition.

“We knew the final was going to be a tough encounter and that our boys would have to step up and play as a cohesive unit in order to beat them, which they did.

“The result at the end of the match was 19-12 in our favour,” said Johnson, boasting that this result meant they had retained their Wembley 7’s title.
