THE family of Kiasha John (5) set out to raise as many funds as they could towards her stem cell treatment as they hosted the “Act of love cake sale” at the Cascades Lifestyle Centre over the weekend.

The Maritzburg Fever previously featured Kiasha, who was born with spastic cerebral palsy, in an article and have since learned that the John family still need to raise R67 560 for Kiasha to receive the stem cell treatment which they are hoping will help her lead a better life.

“So far, via donations, we have raised R5 000 and through the cake sale we were able to raise R7 440 so we still have a bit of an uphill battle to go through as we hope to be able to confirm her treatment by June or July,” said Kiasha’s mother, Nerisha John.

John said that she was glad that Kiasha got a chance to interact with all the people who supported them over the weekend and was happy that people took the time to understand her and see how important it was for her to receive the stem cell treatment.

“We want to give her a fighting chance at a normal life just like any other child. As a mother that is all I want for her; a simple life. I have accepted that my baby girl is disabled but I also want to try and make things a bit easier for her,” said John.
