We need leadership that takes action

2019-01-30 06:00

AS the Councillor of Ward 28, I am very disappointed with the lack of commitment our municipality has towards its ratepayers, who are ultimately paying for services not rendered.

It has now been months since refuse has been collected regularly in Reservoir Road, Amber Place, Regina Road and surrounding areas. The refuse in these areas is only collected after persistent pressure from me as councillor. The municipality has completely lost control and is clearly unable to fulfil its responsibilities.

Residents should be credited for a service that has not been rendered by the municipality. Accountability needs to be prioritised and respect for our citizens needs to be shown.

Some areas are left for days without refuse collection and councillors are placed under pressure from residents when ultimately it is the administration that has failed to execute its mandate due to maladministration, poor planning and a lack of management.

We as local representatives are tired of excuses and we deserve accountability for the sake of the people we represent. The leadership and management are well-aware of the crisis and yet nothing is said or done.

We need leadership that takes action and accounts to the people of this city.
