Celebrating heritage

Annually the Pietermaritzburg Heritage Forum gets together to promote events which draw attention to the varied heritage of the people of South Africa during September, Heritage Month. An interesting programme of 13 events, that began on 2 September and will finish on 27 September has been put together. The main speakers include Dr Graham Dominy on “Fort Napier, the City and its Legacy”, John Conyngham on his research in producing his latest book Hazara: Elegy for an African Farm and Dr Estelle Liebenberg-Barkhuizen on “Preserving family photographs”. Hilton Arts Festival

The Hilton Arts Festival will take place at CFI Lecture Theatre at 10.30am on Sunday, 18 September. It will be a 45-minute presentation with 15 minutes for questions. Tickets available at www.hiltonfestival.co.za or at the box office.

Colour Run PMB

The Colour Run Pietermaritzburg is taking place at Epworth School on 2 October from 10am to 1.30pm. Tickets cost R250 per person or R225 per team of four to 10, children under 10 run free. Your ticket includes styling eighties headband, Colour Run official runners T-shirt, R200 coupon for Superbalist.com a bag of colour powder, two temporary tattoos, race number and entry to The Finish Festival.

Save-Orion Race

Save-Orion Athletic Club’s annual race takes place on Sunday, 6 November. The race will start and finish at Save Hyper, Victoria Street starting at 5.30am. This year’s race will have an added edge, apart from the R50 000 prize money across the field, it also incorporates the KZNA Half-Marathon Championships and will attract the KZN’s top athletes. Athletes are urged to enter early as the first

2 500 entrants will receive T-shirts and goodie bags. Entry for the 21km event is R120 and the 10km is R90. Temporary licences for non-licenced athletes at R25 and R10 respectively will be available. Online entries are now open. Entry forms can be downloaded and will also be available at Save Hyper, Save Truro Plaza, as well as at Poobie Naidoo Sports. Bethel Assembly AGM

The annual general meeting of Bethel Assembly will take place 2 October from 11.30am to 4.30pm at 147 Dookran Road in Northdale. The item on the agenda will be voting in a new senior pastor. Registration is open at 147 Dookran Road and will close on 18 September. Registration times are from 9am to 8.30pm.

Grief and bereavement workshop

This workshop gives participants the opportunity to explore grief and bereavement questions, and more. It looks at how to react to loss and the normal grief process. It also looks at examples of what complicates grief and the signs to look out for. The workshop takes place from 13 to 14 October, 8am to 3pm at Msunduzi Hospice Conference Centre. The cost is R570 per person. RSVP by Friday, 7 October. Only tea will be provided, bring your own lunch. Anyone wanting to understand grief and bereavement better is invited to attend this workshop. We do however recommend a waiting period of one year after a significant loss before attending.
