Young generals of faith

YOUNG males are invited to attend an all-round men event which will have doctors, entrepreneurs, and pastors offering advice. There will be four sessions - healthy living, male grooming, equipping businessmen, and word of God. The event will take place on 29 October at 293 Burger Street (next to old City Royal Hotel), from 11am to 4pm. Entry is free and refreshments will be served. For more information phone 061 922 4662.

Indian classical vocal group delight

MIDLANDS Hindu Society, in association with the Indian Consul for Cultural Relations, will be hosting a visiting six-member light classical vocal group from India, led by Shaila Hattangadi on Friday, 28 October at 7pm at Aryan Hall. Music lovers are in for a treat as Shaila Hattangadi and her troupe are a versatile group of musicians and is unique in that they can perform a wide repertoire of solos, duets and choruses.

The group has also done special thematic­ shows including a programme on the season of Holi titled Kesar Ki Udat Phuhaar, including Braj, Awadhi, Bhojpuri and the rarely-heard Urdu holi songs of Nazir Akbarabadi, the Nawab of Rampur and Bahadur Shah Zafar.

The group is a six-member group comprising of Shaila Hattangadi, Shobhana Rao, Nirmala Jaishankar Bondal, Arun Gulwadi, Mihir Kumar Basu and Ashish Mishra, and has performed in several major centres around the world and has received rave reviews for entertaining foreign and Indian-origin audiences with a wide-ranging repertoire of songs as well as lecture-demonstrations on Indian music.

Aintree Lodge music show

AINTREE Lodge presents a musical show on Friday, 28 October at 7pm, featuring hits by Queen, Abba, Elvis, the Beetles, CCR, Elton John and many others. Film and arts festival

THE 2016 edition of the Film and Arts Festival, hosted by Pacsa in collaboration with the Alan Paton Centre of UKZN, takes place on Friday, 28 October from 6pm to Saturday, 29 October until 9pm on the main campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

The theme of the festival is “Imagine we all resisted” and will feature a jazz concert, various films, an international food festival, discussion forums, workshops and more. All welcome.

Comedy Night Banquet

DO something different than the same old same old and blow off some steam at the Comedy Night Banquet hosted by Hebron Christian Fellowship on 4 November at Aryan Hall. Mountain View Halloween Bash

MOUNTAIN View Entertainment has teamed up with DJ KZN (DJ Mark Burnett) for its Halloween bash held on 29 October at 7pm. Exciting games and lots of prizes to be won. Accommodation available for those who do not want to drive home. Parents can bring their children along to be entertained later on with. Mattresses will be put down for the sleepy heads. Courageous Conversations Conference

MSUNDUZI Museum in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Archives and Records Service will be hosting the fourth Courageous Conversations Conference at Msunduzi Museum on 4 November at 9am. Save-Orion Race

SAVE-ORION Athletic Club’s annual race takes place on Sunday, 6 November. The race will start and finish at Save Hyper, Victoria Street starting at 5.30am.

Apart from the R50 000 prize money across the field, it also incorporates the KZNA Half Marathon Championships and will attract the KZN’s top athletes as well.

Athletes are urged to enter early as the first 2 500 entrants will receive T-shirts and goodie bags. Entry for the 21km event is R120 and the 10km is R90. Temporary licences for non-licensed athletes at R25 and R10 respectively will be also be available. Online entries are open. Entry forms can be downloaded and will also be available at Save Hyper, Save Truro Plaza, as well as at Poobie Naidoo Sports. Open Midlands Gardens

HARCOURTS Open Midlands Gardens 2016 presents a selection of local gardens every­ weekend. See www.openmidlandsgardens.co.za for the calendar.
