KHONZENI Khoza (77), a wheelchair- bound, blind woman living in Ezinketheni, was officially given a new home, that also came with a bed, last Thursday after years of living in a mud house.

“I am very happy, the old house was falling apart while I lived in it and bits of mud would fall on my head.”

The house was handed over by Mama Ntombi’s Community Projects (MNCP), which asked local businesses to assist with providing the elderly woman with a new house.

Responding companies include Pam Golding Properties, PMB, Timber Door Manufacturers, Robertson the Bed People and Midlands Medical Hospital.

MNCP founder and chairperson Pastor Chris Pillay thanked everyone who brought joy to Khonzeni.

MNCP fieldworker Solomon Qadi said he came to know of the woman’s plight from residents during home visits to the location.

Sandra Pillay from MNCP said construction of the house began at the end of September.

Bheki Majola, Khonzeni’s son, who lives with and takes care of his mother, said they had lived in the mud house for many years.

“The house was no longer safe, it was in such a bad state, nothing was left of it,” Majola said.

He said he was ecstatic that he and his mother had moved into a new place. “Through the difficult times I will look after my mother, she gave birth to me,” he said.
