THE Rhumbelow Theatre in Pietermaritzburg will be celebrating the music of Amy Winehouse at the Allan Wilson Shellhole in Alan Paton Avenue (Durban Road) at 2 pm and 6.30 pm on Sunday, January 28.

Featuring vocalists, Kerry Cherry and Mark Stewey Gokool, pianist David Langley, bass Logan Byrne, drummer Riley Giandhari, guitarist Nick Pitman and the Heather Groove brass section, the concert includes the five-time Grammy winner’s hits, as well as songs by artists who influenced her and were influenced by her, including Adele and Meghan Trainor.

Winehouse, who recorded her debut, Frank, at age 19, was known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul rhythm and blues, and jazz.

She won Grammys for her eclectic album Back to Black, and is remembered for songs like Rehab, Back to Black and Valerie.

Tickets are R150 (R130 pensioners) at Computicket. The show is a supper theatre style, so bring your picnic baskets, but no drinks. There is a cash bar.
