THE Round Table of South Africa embarked on their Winter Knights campaign on Friday, spreading warmth across the streets of Pietermaritzburg as they handed out winter packs that included jackets, blankets and other warm items of clothing to the homeless. With both Hilton and Pietermaritzburg members on board, the Winter Knights collected various warm items with Hayfields Micro Hardware and Bisley Primary School donating generously to their cause. “We managed to make 50 bundle packages including jackets, blankets, socks and other items. We had blankets left over after the bundles were handed out which we handed out as well,” said Round Table member Charles Kurton. The members of the Round Table set out at 7.30 pm on Friday to distribute the bundles across PMB, focusing on the homeless people of areas such as Victoria Road, East Street and Loop Street. “One of the campaign slogans is ‘Nothing burns like the cold’ and that really stuck in our minds as we raised funds and collected items for this initiative. “We also managed to buy 70 blankets, which we handed out,” said Kurton, who added that, just like knights, they wanted to stand for something with this project and have people take on more responsibility in society.
